Cakesmash SESSION PREP GUIDE
SCHEDULING YOUR SESSION
- Best Timing: The best photographed between 2-3 weeks prior to first birthday. This guarantees that photos will be delivered in time for your baby's birthday. If you would like to make cards to send out, I suggest 1 month prior. Turnaround time for photos is approximately 2 weeks.
- Book Early (preferably): Ideally, book your session when is no later than 10 months old. This will provide more availability and proper planning for special themes. This does not mean your session can't be booked later.
- Time of Day: Choose a time when your baby is happiest (usually morning or after a nap). Avoid scheduling during normal nap times.
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
1. Practice at home (optional but helpful). Let your baby explore cake or frosting beforehand. This helps them feel more comfortable during the session.
2. Choose an outfit (if you're wanting to bring your own). Simple is best: rompers, bloomers, tutus, or diaper covers. Avoid large logos or busy patterns. Bring a backup outfit (things get messy fast!). Match your baby’s outfit with the cake and backdrop.
3. Watch for allergies. Introduce common ingredients (eggs, dairy, sugar) before the session. Avoid artificial dyes if your baby is sensitive.
4. Prioritize naps. A well-rested baby = happy photos.
5. Before you leave the house for your session, Please FEED baby. Give a light meal before the session so baby isn’t overly hungry or cranky. But don’t arrive too full—they should still be curious about the cake.
During the Session
